Coya Dubai will open its 2019 art season with a showcase of unique conceptual works entitled ‘Beyond: A Myth of Light and Dark’ by veteran architect and artist Dr. Hussein El Ezaby, from January 21.
El Ezaby’s vibrant, instinctive collection of glow in the dark works is inspired by an interplay between art and drama. It was El Ezaby’s background in theatre design that first encouraged him to explore the relationship between light and colour. Today, El Ezaby combines his skills to create paintings that interact with light in interesting and energetic ways.
“The collection explores Egypt through a dynamic light and colour show that extrapolates the meaning of everyday life for Egyptians,” El Ezaby said.
“The series echoes the very essence of the Egyptian spirit. The selection of paintings at Coya are an invitation to delve in and explore deeper Egyptian culture through one’s own interpretive lens.”
An architect by profession, El Ezaby was born in Cairo in 1947. He believes that through his artwork, he can provide a context in which to read, analyse and reflect on his homeland.
COYA’s guests for lunch, dinner, Friday brunch, and drinks can experience El Ezaby’s artworks until mid-March.
COYA Dubai is based at Four Seasons Resort, Jumeirah Beach. Entry to the exhibition is free of charge. For table reservations or more information, email reservations@coyarestaurant.ae, visit www.coyarestaurant.com/dubai or call 04 316 9600.
