UAE’s favourite homegrown Mexican restaurant, Maiz Tacos turns 2 and has now opened their casa in the heart of JLT. Nestled on the basement level of the Lakeshore Tower in Cluster Y, the Mexican restaurant will be bringing visitors authentic Mexican flavours and 100% preservative-free street food favourites including tacos, burritos, rice bowls and quesadillas.
Founded by entrepreneurs and determined taco lovers Luma Makhlouf and Haider Al Assam, Maiz Tacos is well known for its deep ties to the Mexican culture and features strong links to the Mexican tradition of serving tacos. Maiz, meaning corn in Mexican, represents the cornerstone ingredient used at the restaurant. Maiz Tacos aims to create an authentic experience while serving the highest quality and freshest ingredients. The contemporary Mexican restaurant started as a food truck in 2017 before opening their first long-term pop-up location in Dar Al Wasl. With the opening of the permanent new venue, Maiz Tacos brings traditional family recipes and flavours to the Jumeirah Lake Towers district.
The restaurant features signature design elements crucial to the Maiz Tacos brand such as quirky art, coral colours and neon lights. Featuring an open kitchen and minimal furniture, Maiz Tacos lets the food to the talking. The wallet friendly menu is simple and fresh with high quality ingredients that speak for themselves. All ingredients are 100% freshly made and most of the menu items are gluten free.
Before you dive into your tacos, start off with appetizing bites like the Elotes (corn on the cob), a typical Mexican street food staple smothered in pure goodness or Guacamole with Chips, made with Mexican hass avocados. With a choice of seven tacos, the menu offers something for everyone. The El Jefe is considered the boss of the tacos and for a good reason. The 6 hours slow cooked and marinated pulled angus chuck with roasted tomatillo salsa is guaranteed to melt in your mouth. Seafood lovers can choose between the El Dorado, a marinated white battered fish with mixed bell peppers, red onions and dill-chipotle mayo or the Camarones, marinated grilled shrimp taco topped with fresh mango salsa and mint leaves. Vegans have a range of taco choices like the Calabaza, a roasted chipotle pumpkin with lettuce, pico de gallo salsa and roasted cashew nuts with mixes cabbage and garlic mayo. Or opt for La Tierra, a roasted cauliflower with sweet potato, guacamole and cashew arbol salsa.
Those who appreciate a filling burrito can choose Her Burrito, served with marinated grilled chicken breast with Mexican fried rice, pico de gallo, grilled bell peppers and onions topped with sour cream. Or opt for His Burrito with marinated angus flank steak, potato, pico de gallo, guacamole and chipotle crema garnished with cilantro.
The desserts will surely liven up your day. The Churro Ice cream sandwich with drizzled lotus and Churros and dip (Nutella or lotus) are guaranteed to satisfy all your cravings.
