La Petite Maison Serves The Superfood Rhubarb For September Specials

The superfood celery-like vegetable, rhubarb,  will be the seasonal ingredient for September specials at La Petite Maison.

Rich in phytochemicals, phenols, and other nutrients, Rhubarb is now classified as a superfood for its range of health benefits. In addition to being low in calories, rhubard is high in nutrition, fibre, key micronutrients like vitamin K, vitamin C and manganese, the latter of which is important for strong bones. Rhubarb is also said to speed up metabolism, aid weight loss, decreased inflammation and is good for cleansing the blood and purifying the system.

One might be expecting all rhubarb dishes to be served in desserts but that’s not the case at this award-winning French restaurant. The rose-hued vegetable is more than a pie. Its natural sourness makes a nice counterbalance to the richness or sweetness of other ingredients!

The acclaimed French eatery will serve seared dived scallops with cauliflower, capers, and rhubarb as a starter. For the main course, grilled squab pigeon will be paired with the superfood, as this stronger-tasting meat can stand up to the tartness. For dessert, it is where rhubarb comes into its own. La Petite Maison will serve a delectable panna cotta with rhubarb and fresh almonds.

Apart from serving as enticing flavouring for food, rhubarb is also a great addition in beverages, as the superfood adds a hint of sourness that is not too citric, along with a distinct colour that gives drinks a rich shade of pink.

La Petite Maison will create ‘Rhubee’, a non-alcoholic cocktail with vegan-friendly rhubarb shrub and elderflower spume, garnished with raspberry dust. For those looking for a classic cocktail with a 21st century twist, they may opt for ‘Rhumbharb’, a rum-based alchoholic beverage that consits of rhubarb cordial paired with coconut water that is topped up with lemonade and garnished with aromatic heart-shaped shiso leaves.
