Sunset Hospitality Group Unveils Hanu: A New Wave Of Contemporaty Korean Cuisine

Sunset Hospitality Group is thrilled to introduce its latest launch, HANU, set to open in January 2025 on the rooftop of St. Regis Gardens, Palm Jumeirah. This bold culinary destination will reimagine contemporary Korean dining, delivering an elevated experience where heritageis united with modernism while providing vibrant, artfully crafted dishes that push the boundaries of tradition.

The restaurant will be helmed by the acclaimed Chef Kyung Soo Moon, a South Korean national, born and raised in Seoul, with over 24 years of global culinary expertise, including his work at celebrated restaurants such as SUSHISAMBA, Attiko and Sachi.

The exquisite menu will offer a refined exploration of Korean cuisine, combining creativity with an emphasis on quality ingredients. Signatures include Korean Beef Tartare and Raw Red Prawns,Sotbab (Korean rice), alongside Crispy Bulgogi, featuring thinly sliced beef marinated for 24 hours, resulting in a dish celebrated for its deep flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture. Other standout dishes include Beef Tartelette, accompanied by soft quail eggs and caviar, as well as inventive options like Seafood Ceviche, KFC, and oversized Kimbap hand rolls – a Korean take on all time famous Japanese sushi, offering a bold reinterpretation of a beloved classic.

At HANU, the journey begins long before the first bite, as guests are welcomed through a striking hammered bronze door into a captivating blend of traditional and modern Korean aesthetics. Inside, the thoughtfully curated interiors reflect a seamless fusion of heritage and luxury. Dark walnut wood, meticulously stacked roof tiles, and intricate Korean artwork set the tone, while grand, fully carved beam ceilings command attention. The walls, adorned with antique Korean furniture, enhance the authenticity of the surroundings and pay homage to Korea’s rich cultural legacy, inviting guests to capture memorable moments with traditional Korean masks.

The lounge, with its high tables, offers an inviting space for pre-dinner drinks, while the heart of the venue is centred around a striking Korean pine tree, which comfortably seats 13 guests in a visually stunning setting. The main dining room, designed to accommodate 58 covers, showcases traditional wooden carvings and antique furnishings, elegantly complemented by a brass screen mesh. For those seeking a more intimate dining experience, the private dining room, seating 10, is adorned with Korean patterns and celadon vase pendant lights, providing a perfect backdrop for special occasions.

Guests can embrace the al fresco season by dining on HANU’s enchanting terrace, which beckons with its serene ambience under a bronze and wood pergola, surrounded by iconic kimchi pots and patterned screens amid lush greenery, accommodating 44 guests. Every detail, from the architectural design to the carefully selected furnishings and greenery, reflects the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to creating a genuine and sophisticated atmosphere.

Despite the exquisite surroundings, the heart of the HANU experience lies in its ‘Meat me at the grill’—a unique grilling experience that serves as the crown jewel. Each table features its own bespoke charcoal grill, meticulously crafted in Korea, allowing skilled waitstaff to prepare five exquisite cuts of high-quality meat right before diners’ eyes. Tailored to individual preferences and accompanied by an array of six tantalising condiments, this interactive approach fosters a communal spirit, inviting guests to share and engage with one another as they savour their meals family-style.

In addition to this immersive experience, the à la carte menu showcases the finest in Korean culinary artistry, organised into distinct sections highlighting a rich array of specialties. The ‘Traditional KoreanSotbap’ section features a selection of nourishing rice dishes infused with health-promoting ingredients, while ‘Korean Specialties’ presents delights such as Kimchi Stew and Grilled Lamb Chop Galbi. For lighter fare, an assortment of ‘Starters’ offers a variety of options, including the Truffle Egg Soufflé and Spicy Bone Marrow among many others.

Diners seeking ‘Raw’ options can indulge in Prawn Soy Jang and Seafood Ceviche, complemented by a tempting selection of oversized ‘Kimbap hand Rolls’. There is also a diverse range of ‘Noodles & Rice’ dishes, along with an extensive choice of ‘Mains’ and delicious sides.
