Fresh from its launch, Yumi (yoo-me), one of the region’s vegan brands, is making healthy, sustainable and affordable plant-based meals accessible to everyone. Founded by Imad Atwi, an entrepreneur based in the UAE whose passion for environmental sustainability and social responsibility aims to make going vegan easy for everyone. Veganism is now on the rise in the region, and research predicts that it will continue to grow. According to Global Data, the value of meat substitute products has risen from $8.2m to almost $12m in 2019. It is forecast that this figure will grow to $15.1m by 2023 in the UAE (Global Data, 2019).
Yumi will serve as an online destination for both vegan and non-vegan eaters in the UAE through Talabat, Deliveroo, Careem, and Chatfood. Its founders aim to make delicious plant-based food more widely accessible. The team of experts behind the new plant-based brand also wanted to rethink the relationship between people and food by creating an exciting menu that delights all the senses.
Burger, not Burger is yumi’s signature grilled patty of free-range mushrooms, buckwheat and pistachios. The burger is high in protein and is served in an artisanal bake bun with pickles, homemade sauce, truffle mushrooms and aged vegan gouda cheese. Other menu items include Truffled Hazelnut Risotto, the Zucchini Wrap, Lasagna, Just Better and more. Check out weareyumi.com to see more of their nutrient-packed and macro-tracked dishes.
“We find that the term ‘vegan’ is perceived in different ways, and in most cases with a pre-set bias. At yumi, we are committed to making plant-based food accessible to a wider community, for both vegans and non-vegans equally,” shared Imad Atwi, founder of yumi. “The menu was designed to want people to rethink their relationship with food, meat, and animal byproducts. Our journey does not stop there, through yumi, we seek to build and experiment with new business models to empower the region to make smarter decisions about their food choices, so we can collectively live more sustainably,” he adds.
The team at yumi kitchen is unique: a collective of vegan and non-vegan chefs, nutritionists, and sustainability experts who think creatively about creating the ultimate vegan food experience. The result: plant-based dishes that are uncompromising on taste with a slight dash of experimentation.
Yumi redefines how vegan food is experienced, giving what was once a fringe movement a taste of the market. At yumi, sustainable food and an appetizing menu are the norms, but the real surprise comes in biodegradable packaging to contribute to societies living more sustainably.
