Following the enormous success of Zuma London, Rainer Becker quickly recognised the huge popularity of robatayaki cuisine and opened ROKA Charlotte Street, London in 2004. The principle cuisine comes from the Robata grill. Located amid diners the grill forms an integral design element of all the restaurants but more than being a stunning feature, the robata is truly the heart of ROKA.
In 2007, Hamish Brown became the Head Chef of ROKA Charlotte Street. A native New Zealander, Hamish brought with him a great passion for blending the great Asian cuisines that make up the Western Pacific Rim. At ROKA, he has developed the restaurant’s authentic but contemporary menu, fusing his knowledge of Japanese ingredients with his love of quality, seasonal British produce. In 2013, Hamish became Executive Chef of ROKA Group.
In March 2020, ROKA Dubai opened its doors in the ME Dubai Hotel, situated in The Opus by Zaha Hadid in Dubai’s buzzing Business Bay. ROKA Dubai offers a casual experience with a unique warmth and energy. Designed by Noriyoshi Muramatsu, ROKA Dubai is dominated by a modern Industrial feel, fusing together brushed concrete, raw wood finishes, metal and leather to provide a distinctly cohesive edgy and chic look and feel. A large outside terrace seats 64 with an in-house DJ echoing the chic ROKA vibe.
