New In Town: Japanese Restaurant, Ikigai To Open In Dubai

Ikigai – Where Purpose Meets Passion!

From the bustling taverns of Japan to Dubai Marina, comes the new social Japanese restaurant, Ikigai bringing an authentic concept by acclaimed chef, Reif Othman. Taking its name from the Japanese concept, “Reason for Being”, this laid-back resto & bar offers patronsJapanesestreet cuisine and an extensive cocktail and sake menu which can be enjoyed indoors or on the terrace.

Launched by The First Group, the quest for culinary innovation has inspired the group to partner with talented and well-known chefs. For this new concept restaurant, award-winning chef Reif Othman brings the flavors of Far East Asia to New Dubai in a menu that celebrates the food of izakayas(Japanese pub taverns).

“I was excited to consult and curate the menu for Ikigai as this new concept ticks many boxes for me. It’s an independent, homegrown brand developed by UAE-based restaurateurs, plus as an ‘izakaya’, this licensed Japanese pub fills a gap in the Dubai Marina district. By adding my unconventional spin to dishes, I’ve created a contemporary and affordable menu,” says Othman.

Ikigai will ignite the senses and create an enthralling atmosphere with its selection of flavoursome signature and artistic interiors. The wooden interiors, mood lighting and graffiti murals will transport you to the new wave of Japanese urban chic streets while the curated menu by Head Chef Minho Ted Shin brings a fresh, edgy, and unique take on the Japanese culinary scene in Dubai. From grilled tiger prawns with Kombu butter to crispy tempura burgers, Ikigai’s menu gives diners the chance to sample Japanese influenced dishes with mix-and-match plates that are ideal for celebrations and sharing.

“An izikaya concept in this part of Dubai is unique. It’s casual, really fun, and we cater for diners who love Japanese food and flavors. We take the quality of our food seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We want people to come in and enjoy themselves, bring family and friends, and to make
it a destination restaurant in Dubai.Something that people don’t mind going out of their way to get to!”
– Mark Patten, Vice President of Food & Beverage, The First Group.

Located at Millennium Place Marina, the restaurant is the perfect spot for Marina residents who need a pick-me-up after work or a catching up with friends on a chilled Saturday afternoon. The down-to-earth concept restaurant will delight all your senses with a delicious menu and friendly atmosphere that will immediately make you feel at home!

Open for lunch and dinner, Ikigai is situated at Millennium Place Marina Hotel in Dubai Marina.
